Butch (formerly known as Spike) was a mean and stupid Irish dog character created by Tex Avery, he appeared in several cartoons, most iconiclly as a foe and rival for Droopy Dog. He is technically smart and idiotic at the same time. He loves the attention. He was created by Frederick Bean Avery, Butch is his 2nd famous character behind Droopy, who is not stupid to fall for Butch’s tricks.

He is greedy, in one episode he wants a Leprechaun (Irish: Leipreachán) because he thinks it make him rich. In another episode he tries to get rid of Droopy to be the "Lucky Dog" and be rich.

  • Despite being named Spike in "Wags to Riches" and the model sheets, he was widely known as The Irish Dog until being renamed Butch in 1957.[1]
  • He makes a cameo appearance in the 2022 Netflix interactive film Cat Burglar as one of the costumes.
